6 Ukrainian designers present fashion collections in Paris – WWD

A group of Ukrainian designers are trying to do their part to strengthen the country’s economy, if not by strengthening their businesses, keeping them going, as the Russian invasion of Ukraine intensifies.

Ukrainian fashion in Paris is championed by international fashion consultant Jen Sidary, who launched the online platform Angelsforfashion in late March, a month after Russian forces arrived in Ukraine.

From October 1-6, six Ukrainian designers will showcase their collections in Paris, after Sidary helped line up the Good Six Showroom as the venue. Frolov, Kachorovska and Chereshnivska, who have already shown in Paris, will return, while newcomers include Litkovska, My Sleeping Gypsy and Oliz. Retailers, stylists, celebrities and publishers can expect a range of womenswear, unisex clothing, footwear and scarves.

This collaboration is made possible thanks to the support of the USAID Competitive Economy Program. Natalia Petrova, USAID project manager at the Office of Economic Growth, said falling demand due to Ukraine’s shrinking population and broken supply chain is prompting companies to explore opportunities. export.

The brands present at the Good Six Showroom are looking to expand their distribution internationally. A few, including Ivan Frolov and Lilia Litkovska, who recently changed the spelling of his last name, traveled to the United States a few days earlier this month to take part in a group presentation during Fashion New York week. By visiting different cities, Ukrainian designers try to make personal connections so that they are not just names on a label. They are also following up on the decree of Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky and his wife Olena Zelenska, who called on Ukrainian business owners – in all fields – to continue their operations to support the national economy.

Kachorovska will be part of the Ukrainina collections that will be presented in Paris.

Sidary noted that the event is not a charity effort and Ukrainian designers are doubly challenged as some have moved to other countries and are now commuting between neighboring countries overland to Ukraine. to periodically check their respective teams and production. , as flights to and from Ukraine are currently not an option.
