Carbitex (Kennewick, Washington, USA) expands its advances on its flexible AFX technology platform for high-performance footwear with two new carbon fiber innovations. AFX Puncture Proof (AFX-AP), designed for added protection in the commercial workwear market, and AFX Formed, focused on performance athletic footwear, both built on the asymmetrically flexible AFX technology platform of the firm that is rigid in one direction and highly flexible in the other.

Carbitex claims its AFX-AP material is a multi-layered composite plate that offers a high degree of performance. The company claims it’s the only patented plate with puncture protection and asymmetric flex that provides uncompromising comfort while preventing the foot from flexing too much and has great flexibility in the other direction for more movement. ergonomic. Carbitex believes its latest material innovation introduces a paradigm shift in construction footwear, expanding the possibility of lighter work footwear that does not require heavy protective soles and excels in safety, stability and performance throughout. throughout the day. AFX-AP passes global industry test standards (ASTM F2412-11, EN 12568:2010, CZA Z195-14) and is ideal for workers at increased risk of foot injuries, as often seen in construction, workwear and utility sectors.

For the athletic performance shoe market, Carbitex AFX Formed extends the existing AFX flexible carbon plate material with a pre-shaped angle to generate a responsive landing while allowing for more natural downforce. AFX Formed is designed to deliver a responsive ride, provide stability to increase efficiency over time, and protect the foot, all shaped to align with the runner’s natural gait. The Carbitex AFX Formed plate is customized to the needs and shoe designs of each brand partner.

“AFX has become a staple in our product offering. With the evolution to AFX Formed and AFX Puncture Proof, we can tap into new business segments and new brands looking to perform better, whether on a construction site or on a marathon route,” Clark Morgan, vice president of business development and customer product development. at Carbitex, says. “Expanding the properties of our patented technology continues to bring new benefits to the footwear market, enabling a transformational shift in traditional thinking about how performance and utility footwear can be constructed.”

AFX-AP is Carbitex’s first foray into the work and utility footwear markets and is available to brand partners beginning fall 2022 for product release to market as early as fall 2023.

AFX Formed, as featured in the Altra Vanish Carbon, is available to consumers now for the Spring 2022 season, and in the Saucony Endorphin Edge trail shoe for the Fall 2022 season, due out later this summer.
