Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have posted a new photo of their 2021 Christmas card, and the Duke of Sussex’s look in the blink of an eye raises eyebrows.
The Sussexes’ Christmas card 2021 featured the very first public photo of Prince Harry and Markle’s 6-month-old daughter Lilibet, who is being held by her mother, as well as the latest photo of their 2-year-old son. Archie, who is sitting on his father’s lap.
In the cute snap – which was taken this summer at the couple’s home in Santa Barbara, Calif., By their wedding photographer Alexi Lubomirski – Prince Harry, Markle and Archie coordinated in denim jeans, while baby Lili wore a frilly white ensemble. The Duchess opted for a dark sweater and nude flats, while her son wore a white button-down shirt to match his sister.
However, some Twitter users questioned Prince Harry’s decision to wear ripped jeans and go barefoot.
“The Sussex kids look very sweet and smiling. Is Harry trying to financially argue that he doesn’t have shoes and his jeans are ripped? Or is he just trying to be with the teen gang? ” wrote Royal commentator and journalist Angela Levin, author of “Harry: A Biography of a Prince”.
Some users not only criticized Prince Harry’s look, but also the message he and Markle included in the Christmas card, which was first shared by Team Rubicon, a non-governmental organization that supports international relief efforts in disaster. “As we look forward to 2022, we have made donations on your behalf to several organizations that honor and protect families – from those displaced from Afghanistan to American families in need of paid parental leave,” wrote Prince Harry and Markle.
A Twitter user commented, “I’m with you, Angela. No ripped jeans, socks and shoes, thank you. Also the donations I could have done without. This is a Christmas card, not a political flyer.”
“I think they wanted to make it clear that they’re a simple, normal family. You know, intentionally trying to pull on the heartstrings. Which they always try to do and end up failing,” said another. suggested.
Internet user joked that the couple’s budget went to Markle’s wardrobe and that Prince Harry had to “buy his clothes from American Eagle”.
“Harry went from a hole in his shoe to now barefoot,” he added. wrote, referring to the black leather shoes Prince Harry wore to the wedding of his longtime friend Charlie van Straubenzee and Daisy Jenks in 2018.
The shoes, which had a large hole at the bottom of one of the pairs, appeared to be Prince Harry’s favorite as he also wore them earlier that year at a memorial service in Trafalgar Square in London to commemorate the 25th anniversary of murder of gang victim Stephen Lawrence, according to People.
Meanwhile, Sussex supporters hit back at those who left hateful comments on the Christmas card photo and rushed at the ‘in-laws’.
“What a beautiful Christmas card. Haters will have a party on this card, because they would never stop writing fake news about Meghan. 2021 is almost over, can they leave them alone?” a commented.
“Wonderful beautiful family !!! The kids are so cute. I love how happy they are. Christmas is so special with cute little ones like these two,” said another. wrote.
