SHAQ sneakers and the clothes of Dr Shaquille O’Neal, best known as a former NBA star basketball player, are now on shelves after an official launch in South Africa in December 2021.
Prompt by a meeting with a fan who asked the athlete when someone would produce an affordable sneaker line, O’Neal ended an endorsement deal with Reebok (valued at $40 million) to launch his own line. In 2004, O’Neal launched SHAQ alongside its other Dunkman brand.
SHAQ shoes are now on the shelves at retailers such as Tekkie Town. You can find three types of sneakers in the collection: Full Press, Analog and Bankshot, as well as the Corner children’s collection.
The shoe designs take the form of high-end basketball sneakers commonly worn by sneaker enthusiasts.
Arguably one of the best and most aggressive centers to ever play basketball, “Shaq was well known as one of the most dominant players on the court,” says Jaysen Champan of SHAQ South Africa.
Despite the similarities and conventional design, Champan says a higher-end line of sneakers may see the light of day in the future, but the current line is aimed at “everyday consumers.”
Prices start at R799 for children and R999. “O’Neal is committed to offering sneakers at a more accessible price point than its competitors,” says SHAQ South Africa.
Typical prices for high-end branded sneakers are much higher than this.
