The Bronx native’s luxury shoe collection is now on the shelves at Macy’s on 34th Street

A Bronx native has fulfilled his high school dream and now has his luxury shoe collection on the shelves of Macy’s flagship store on 34th Street.

More than 20 years ago, designer Sherwayne Mahoney’s luxury shoe collection, “Things To Come,” was just an idea created as part of a high school project. For Mahoney, the dream was much more.

“I would walk past Macy’s windows and say, ‘I need to be in this window, I need to be in this store. How do I get there?’ said Mahoney.

Last week, the luxury designer launched the sandals, pumps and stilettos from his collection at Macy’s store on Herald Square in Manhattan.

Mahoney says the journey to retail hasn’t been easy. He has been in the fashion world since 1994, studying at Parsons School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology, but has never felt represented in luxury fashion.

“So for me growing up in the Bronx…why can’t I give my version of what luxury is,” Mahoney said. “Especially if I study with big companies and work with big companies.”

Mahoney says there’s even more to come, and he plans to expand his brand with luxury handbags and cologne. He hopes to expand to other luxury stores throughout the city.
